School Programs
Exchange Place provides an ideal setting for an outdoor history lesson. Students engage their senses as they learn about mid-nineteenth century farm life.We have two programs available for pre-school and elementary aged children that can be scheduled by school groups. These programs are designed to complement the Tennessee School Curriculum. Home school groups are welcome and children with special needs can be accommodated. Country Critters
– offered in September and October
Children will experience the farm with their senses of sight, hearing, touch and smell! They will enjoy a hayride and see animal care demonstrated while “meeting” the horses, cows, sheep, pigs and chickens. Children will also explore the garden and learn to appreciate the interdependence of pollinators, plants, and people as they see and touch some “treasures” that nature has given us.
For: Children ages 4-6
Cost: $5.00 per student or adult (school staff admitted free)
Minimum: $100.00 or 20 paying guests
Hours: 10:00-11:30 am
Schools have the option to stay for a picnic on the grounds following the program.
Country Doings
– offered in April and May
This “hands-on” living history program includes a first person interpretation tour of Exchange Place in 1851. Students learn the 3 R’s in school and spend recess playing old fashioned games. Students will also meet Mr. or Mrs. Preston and other members of the Eden’s Ridge farm community, stir up hoecakes, dip candles, check out the spring house, and meet the pigs and chickens.
For: 2nd-4th grade students
Cost: $6.00 per student and $5.00 per adult (school staff admitted free)
Hours: 9:30 am -12:30 pm
Small school groups may be asked to share the grounds for this program.
Schools have the option to stay for a picnic on the grounds following the program.
